FORT WORTH, Texas (December 23, 2023) - Tarrant Appraisal District (TAD) is thrilled to announce the appointment of Joe Don Bobbitt as our new Executive Director & Chief Appraiser after an exhaustive search by the firm Mackenzie Eason. Mr. Bobbitt is a distinguished Texan, a dedicated military veteran, and a seasoned professional with over a decade of experience in the appraisal industry.

A proud native of East Texas, Joe Don Bobbitt earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M University, where he was deeply involved in the Corps of Cadets. Following his graduation, he served our nation with honor and distinction in the United States Army, achieving the rank of Field Artillery Captain. During his military service, Mr. Bobbitt received numerous accolades, including the Bronze Star, for his exceptional service during multiple deployments in Iraq during the Second Persian Gulf War.

With nearly thirteen years of experience in the appraisal industry, Joe Don Bobbitt brings a wealth of knowledge to his new role at Tarrant Appraisal District. He spent three years as the Assistant Chief Appraiser and the last four years as the Chief Appraiser in McLennan County. Ben Perry, McLennan Appraisal District Board Chair, regretted losing the Chief Appraiser, "He took over a District that had lost any positive interaction with other taxing entities and the general public. Joe Don implemented procedures for staff to follow that not only changed our reputation with the entities and general public but in the process brought on a culture change within the district itself. We have seen him walk us through the last few years of soaring appraisals with a confidence that is uncanny. Please know we are excited for Joe Don, we will miss him, but McLennan County's loss is certainly Tarrant County's gain."

His expertise and leadership are widely recognized and respected by his peers across the state of Texas. Alvin Lankford, the Chief Appraiser in Williamson County and the Past President of the Texas Association of Appraisal Districts, praised the selection of Joe Don Bobbitt, stating, "Congratulations to the Tarrant Appraisal District on hiring one of the best up-and-coming chief appraisers in Texas. Mr. Bobbitt is an excellent communicator who works well with taxpayers and taxing entities alike. He has a reputation for getting ahead of issues that impact appraisal districts and has greatly improved the McLennan Central Appraisal District since taking over as its chief appraiser."

In addition to his impressive career, Joe Don Bobbitt is actively involved in various professional organizations, including serving as the TAAD Region 12 Trustee in 2020-21, a member of the TAAD-PTAD-TDLR Liaison Committee from 2020-23, and holding the position of Secretary/Treasurer in the TAAO Region 9 Central Texas Chapter. He is also a dedicated member of the TAAD IAAO Chapter and has successfully completed the Chief Appraiser Institute in 2014.

In his new role as Executive Director & Chief Appraiser of Tarrant Appraisal District, Joe Don Bobbitt expressed his commitment to providing clear and transparent leadership. His immediate priorities include securing the network and data systems, rebuilding public trust, and fostering strong working relationships with the taxing entities that support TAD. He is eager to take on the challenge of leading one of the largest appraisal districts in the state and is excited about the opportunities for collaboration within Tarrant County.

"I'm honored to have been chosen by the board of directors as the next chief appraiser of Tarrant Appraisal District," said Joe Don Bobbitt. "TAD has a history of surpassing state standards and requirements, which is a testament to the staff's dedication and training. My focus moving forward is to provide clear and transparent leadership for Tarrant Appraisal District. I will get to work immediately on securing our network and data, rebuilding public trust, and building a strong working relationship with the taxing entities that support TAD. I'm excited for the opportunity and challenge of leading one of the largest appraisal districts in the state. I look forward to working with the great entities in Tarrant County and building effective relationships."

Tarrant Appraisal District is confident that Joe Don Bobbitt's leadership, experience, and dedication will further enhance the district's reputation for excellence and its commitment to serving the taxpayers and communities of Tarrant County.
